Duck In The Truck Review

I love this book & my 2 year old son loves it too! We find ourselves reciting it when we are on the road. The pictures are wonderful & the rhyming can't be matched! .... And as for bad manners - if you find this book to be that horrible then you should present it in a way that teaches your children NOT to do this & not expect a book to teach that for you. Anyway, let's face it, not everyone in life has perfect manners so why not have a fun way to expose your kids to the real world! Personally, I found NOTHING wrong with this book & will give it as a gift to all my little kiddy friends.

Wonderful Book - SharrieLynn -
Duck in the Truck is one of my 3 year old son's favorite books. When he was very young he was enthralled with the vibrant illustrations, and now he loves the way the story rhymes. We've enjoyed this book so many times that on a long car trip I recited the story - word for word - over and over again, even though the book was tucked safely away at home. It's the only book I've memorized from reading so many times!

My 4 yr. Old looooooves this book. Honestly, if I could read this all day to her, it would be pure joy for her. And honestly again, I love reading it to her. I love the narration, "this is the truck that gets stuck in the much..." after just 2 reads my daughter was able to recite each page almost verbatim, so it's a great book for toddlers to read to themselves as well. It's on the list of the read aloud handbook and I can see why. Funny, easy read for you and your child.

The ending of this book completely kills it. We received it as a gift. I read it to my daughter and now we are going to get rid of it. The reviewers who say the duck is clearly portrayed as an antihero are mad. You may pick up on this - and help your kids interpret the ducks behavior, but even at 18 months, my daughter is more than capable of pulling books down on her own and looking through them without me standing over her shoulder as interpreter. The message in this book is poor. Trick people into helping you and then leave them in the lurch when you get what you want.
The sad part is that they could have fixed it pretty easily at the end. If only a second tragedy befell the duck - kind of as karma come back around. Then the message would be bad things happen to bad people.
