Here we have another Mercer Meyer book just for the young child. The vocabulary is simple, but the messages about responsibility are very evident. The little child shows responsibility for the new puppy, feeding it, walking, and mostly, loving it.

Children will understand the concepts of being responsible for their pets, as the author brings familiar life situations into the story. Any child with a new puppy will want to take a lesson from this "little critter" book.

It's amusing when the child who is walking the puppy becomes entangled in the leash. Then, who is walking who? Younger sibs will want to help with the responsibility. However, one child should be the appointed caretaker of the puppy. "Happy Walking, Puppy?"

It's a child's wish come true. Mercer Mayer's famous Little Critter character has brought home a puppy. HIs parents will let him keep it if he takes care of the puppy himself. Little Critter agrees. He feels he is doing a good job, but the funny illustrations make it clear that the puppy is a lot of work -- and even a lot of trouble. Does Little Critter think ithe puppy is worth it? Yes, yes, and yes, again.

We love all the little critter books. They are always so colorful and fun to read. We also add a little more fun by trying to find the spider and mouse on each page. In some of the books there is just the spider, in some it is just the mouse, and in others it is both. They are hidden a lot of the time and it is fun to try to search them out.



Little Critter is always a great read! - Shilom - MI
My daughter loves the Little Critter books. This one is very cute, Little Critter gets a new puppy and tells us all about his new friend and responsibilities. The pictures are adorable as always, and my daughter can really relate to this story as she has a dog, too, and also some of the same responsibilities and bonding.



Another Wonderful Book by Mercer Mayer - silky69 -
There isn't too much to say about this book if you are at all familiar with Mercer Mayer's quiet charm and the innocence of his books. Basically, it's about the critter who owns a puppy and all the friendship and sharing times he has with him. The illustrations are very cute. THis book leaves with a warm charmed feeling. A great Mercer Mayer book that I would recommend to any child or their parent or the adult (like me) who just loves children's books and illustrations even when their children have outgrown it.
