The Mystery of Cabin Island (Hardy Boys, Book 8) Review

My son's school requires the students to read 1000 pgs every 3 months, so mentioning reading-time to my son has become akin to feeding him liver...we were, however, lucky enough to find this title on an unabridged read-a-long format withOUT page turning beeps/dings/chimes...this means he needs to keep up with the reader, but we found it was no problem because he became ingrossed with the story...finishing it in about _5 hours_ with only 2 very short breaks (one for dinner, the other a potty run): The first 16 books build upon each other but if you start out of sequence don't worry, the reader is given enough info to know background subplots. My son says he will read this book again, which says a lot for him! He is looking forward to reading his other books of the series we have gotten him.

I sent this book to my grandson in Scotland for his eighth birthday. He is thrilled!

Got this gift as a sentimental remembrance---we both loved this book as kids. It had the complete original text plus vintage ads in the back for other series--all very nice. The binding was a little stiff and tight. The dustjacket looked cheap--not the best reproduction. Also, I object to the spine of the dustjacket identifying it as a facsimile--that doesn't seem necessary. That being said, the gift worked as a thoughtful piece of nostalgia.
